Without Robert Johnson, much of the music we listen to today would likely not sound the same. Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, Jimmy Page, Elvis…they all took what Robert did and used it for inspiration, sometimes covering his songs (Crossroads Blues by Cream, for example).
I never get sick of listening to this. Despite the fact that it’s only a guy and a guitar, it’s robust and I hear new things with each repeat. The only known recordings were done 79 years ago today, on November 23, 1936, in room 414 of the Gunter Hotel in San Antonio.
