In honour of St. Patrick and my Irish brothers and sisters, we’re featuring the mighty Thin Lizzy today.
Yeah…I know it’s a few days past the 17th, but if you’re truly Irish you’re just regaining consciousness right about now.
I stumbled upon this outstanding Thin Lizzy concert footage this morning. Please watch it. It’s from the Thunder and Lightning tour, which in my opinion was the strongest Lizzy line-up mostly due to the presence of guitar god John Sykes. This guy brought out the best in Phil, and is a full on stud of a guitarist. A true rock star. He looks the part, and plays the shit out of it.
If you’ve never listened to Thunder and Lightning, give it a go. It’s an very strong album. Sadly, but somehow appropriately, it was Phil Lynott’s last recording before he passed in 1986. Always good to go out on a high note, I guess.
So here you go, Thin Lizzy in concert. A highlight for me is The Emerald (starts at 33 minutes), with Sykes and Scott Gorham trading licks and ripping it wide open. A ferocious live rock and roll band. Run time is a little over an hour, so grab a Guinness or a whiskey – or both – and settle in.
All along, all I’ve really wanted to be is a writer. So now I tell people that’s what I am, even though I haven’t earned a dime being a writer.
That being said, I’ll confess that once a day, every day, I wish I was still a musician. That was the one time in my life when I was cool.
