Billy Sheehan and Paul Gilbert could easily make every Mr Big song a complete shred-fest, but they don’t. They always keep the song in mind and as a result, Mr Big is a really good rock band with some solid pop sensibilities. There’s still plenty of instrumental deliciousness though. Mature musicians with nothing to prove can do that.
Here’s their latest, Defying Gravity, along with Green Tinted Sixties Mind from their sophomore album Lean Into It and – just to prove they can do it – Addicted to That Rush from their eponymous debut album.
All along, all I’ve really wanted to be is a writer. So now I tell people that’s what I am, even though I haven’t earned a dime being a writer.
That being said, I’ll confess that once a day, every day, I wish I was still a musician. That was the one time in my life when I was cool.
